Latoya Edwards, MS
Certified Trauma Professional
I am a highly motivated professional who believes that we all have the innate potential to be who we were created to be, sometimes we just need that support, encouragement, and guidance on discovering who that is. I believe that we are not what we've experienced, but who we choose to be. I continuously engage in professional development through training, continued education, and weekly supervision with my clinical supervision to ensure safe, appropriate, and effective services for clients. I am dedicated to creating a safe, empathetic, and non-judgemental therapeutic environment for clients to work through unresolved trauma as a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP), challenges with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, emotional regulation, and the day-to-day stressors of life. My theoretical approaches of choice are person-centered and strength-based, using CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution Focused therapy.

Bio and work history:
The mental health field has been the most rewarding profession I have ever been able to work in. I have worked with little kids from age 2 up to 50+-year-old adults. My favorite part of working in this field is my impact on the LGBTQIA+ community and its members. I am here to grow and change along with my clients and develop further by implementing cognitive-based therapeutic interventions while being person-centered in the work I am doing with my clients.
The theoretical orientation of my journey has led me to take bits and pieces of different therapeutic interventions such as Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and understanding of Cognitive skills that allow a person to find themselves within the therapeutic journey.
Working with all ages and many personality types has given me an awareness of my skills to practice what I teach to clients daily in my own life to keep my skills sharply honed. I love to learn about the intricacies of how a person ticks, which causes great curiosity in me. I find people's minds to be incredibly fascinating and I can't wait to apply all that I have learned in my Clinical Counseling Degree, which will be completed in December of 2024.
Using a Trauma-Informed Approach, Therapeutic Crisis Interventions, Extensive familiarity with various mental health disorders. He has a Cognitive Behavioral approach with experience in Substance Use Assessments, Comprehensive/Risk Assessments, Crisis and Safety Plans/ Discharge Plans, Case Management Creating Programs, and Treatment Planning.
